Plant-scale study of controlled cyclic distillation

Abstract A dual-purpose column for testing the controlled cycling concept was designed, installed and operated successfully. The column had 15 perforated trays and was 12 in. dia. The throughput for the column using the controlled cycle mode of operation was 2 or more times the throughput obtainable with conventional operation. The separation obtainable in the cycling mode was demonstrated to be nearly equivalent to that in the conventional mode.
