Using An Interactive Videodisc Program To Teach Social Skills To Handicapped Children

This article describes a videodisc-based social skills training program and provides a brief summary of the research conducted to determine its effectiveness. The most important outcome was a positive change in peer acceptance. Experimental group students scored significantly higher on a posttraining measure of peer acceptance than did control group students. The study deals exclusively with emotionally disturbed and learning disabled students. Hearing-impaired students were not considered in the design of the program or in the field tests; however, the developers believe the program is adaptable to hearing-impaired students.
