3D Printing: An Analysis of Emerging Business Models

Despite still being in the early stages of commercialisation, 3D Printing (3DP) is transitioning from being a ‘nice to have’ to becoming a ‘must have’ for ever more manufacturing organisations. This paper looks at this journey, highlighting market volumes and growth predictions, as well as market trends. This information is then put in the context of implications for supply chain management, raising questions for supply chain managers who are interested in developing business models for 3DP implementation. The paper finishes by discussing what potential options exist for these emerging business models
