A seismic analysis of the existing West Bay Crossing of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge was pe rformed for the California Department of Transportation to determine the seismic vulnerability and retrofitting requirements of the structure. Engineering studies were performed to gain an understanding of the dynamic seismic behavior of the bridge, to evaluate its seismic vulnerability, and to determine basic retrofit requir ements. The goals and scope of the evaluation, along with the methods and findings of the engineering studies that were performed to evaluate seismic vulnerability, are summ arized here.
