Conductor Galloping-Part II Torsional Mechanism

A detailed aerodynamic wind tunnel study on conductors with natural ice shapes shows that, over a practical range of ice conditions and wind speeds, conductor galloping on overhead lines is caused largely by the self-excited torsional mechanism.
