Development of a bluetooth 4.0 PPG sensor for use in Heart Rate Variability analysis

Historically, Heart Rate Variability (HRV) measurement and analysis was a discipline confined to the lab, measured using expensive equipment to record and process the data. The processing power of the current generation of smartphones, has, within the last year, resulted in the emergence of apps which provide a full suite of HRV analyses. It would therefore appear that HRV is in transition from the lab to the living room. This work describes the development of a sensor to support that transition.
