Lectures on applied mathematics in combustion. Past contributions and future problems in laminar and turbulent combustion

Abstract An effort is made to appraise the contributions of studies in applied mathematics to progress in the field of combustion. Some of the successes are reviewed, and some of the outstanding problems that warrant further study by methods of applied mathematics are indicated.
