Effect of variable viscosity on thermohaline convection in a porous medium

Abstract The effect of variable viscosity on the stability of a two-component fluid which is saturating a porous medium subjected to uniform heating is analysed. Various cases of stabilising and destabilising concentration and temperature gradients are studied for both Brinkman and Darcy models. Numerical computations are made to establish the effect of variable viscosity, salinity and temperature gradients on the setting-up of thermohaline convection and the graphical results are presented in figures.
