선박안전항해를 위한 가상항로표지의 응용에 관한 연구

Automatic Identification System (AIS) has been primarily used for collision avoidance and provision of safetyrelated information at sea. The continuous expansion of AIS capabilities opened up a wide range of services in the maritime domain, one of which is the use of AIS as an Aids-to-Navigation (AtoN). AIS-equipped AtoN (AIS-AtoN) has been basically classified into (a) real AtoNs, (b) synthetic and (c) virtual AtoNs, which are visible on electronic navigational charts and used for placing an AtoN in a timely-manner whenever a real (physical) AtoN is not possible to be sited. This paper aims to outline the benefits of the application of virtual AIS AtoN by various organizations and will also focus on the issues that should be taken into consideration affecting the feasibility of its implementation. In addition, surveys on the relevant projects shall also be conducted.
