Speech disorder in parkinsonism--usefulness of delayed auditory feedback in selected cases.

SummaryDelayed auditory feedback was tested in eleven patients suffering from Parkinsonism accompanied by a variety of speech difficulties. Dramatic improvement in intelligibility occurred in two patients who showed a “festinating” type of speech. In one the improvement has been sustained for 24 months. As the benefit is only present while the delayed auditory feedback is in use, a portable body-worn DAF device is essential for practical help in management.
