Genesis of a pest : Nysius raphanus and Sisymbrium irio in vineyards.

The pest status in vineyards of the southern false chinch bug, Nysius raphanus Howard, a native insect, develops as a result of (1) viticultural cultivation practices which favor development of London-rocket, Sisymbrium irio L., a cruciferous weed introduced from Europe, (2) the strong attraction of the weed to overwintering adults, and (3) the exhaustion or destruction of the weed stands which results in migration to the vines. Adjustment in timing of cultivation practices in spring provides control.
