Development of a Smart Grid Roadmap for Kentucky

Abstract Thanks to the various benefits promised by the smart grid, many utilities are considering deployment of smart grid technologies. For such cross-organizational projects to be successful, a concerted effort is needed, requiring a careful roadmap to be developed. However, there is a lack of methodical process in the current literature for describing the development of smart grid deployment roadmaps. This article presents the results of a recently completed project aimed at developing a comprehensive smart grid roadmap for the state of Kentucky, including the methods and processes utilized and the achieved roadmap plan. The project results may benefit roadmap development and smart grid deployment efforts in other states.
