Lights, Camera, Stansted: Stansted's Recent Runway Resurfacing Project Also Saw Its Lighting Replaced

This article describes the resurfacing of London’s Stansted airport in a nine month long 2006 project. The project also included the installation of new runway and taxiway lighting. Such resurfacing was necessary due to the rapid increase in that airport’s traffic, which is up from 1 million per year in 1990 to its current 23 million per year. The author covers the suppliers for the project’s materials and construction needs and the phases of the project. The newly implemented tungsten halogen lighting improved upon luminescence and profile over the older lighting. The new fixtures are also easier to access for maintenance, which reduces runway closure times.
