A Novel 3-Phase L-Dump Converter for Switched Reluctance Motors

In this paper, a novel 3-phase L-dump converter for switched reluctance motors is presented. The converter can be classified as a single switch per phase converter topology for SRM drives. The aim of this paper is to provide a low cost solution for SRM drives. This paper focused on the mechanism principle analysis of the proposed converter based on PSPICE simulation results. The voltage stresses on semiconductor devices, also the behavior of current and voltage waveforms in DCM operation with single pulse mode will be analyzed in this paper. The optimization of the proposed L-dump converter regarding current behavior in the motor winding is also discussed.
