Radio frequency radiation safety management and training

This chapter provides an overview of the various aspects of safety management, safety procedures and audits of radio frequency radiation, and the keeping of safety records. The chapter discusses RF radiation training for the various categories of personnel who might be at risk. Because much of the basis of RF safety management is related to appraisal and measurement, adequate equipment resources are necessary. The management provision, which ensures that all the relevant equipment and systems get surveyed when necessary, is as important as the measurement resource. It is just as important in large organizations, which design and manufacture RF radiation sources, as it is in user organizations. The chapter covers the investigation of incidents and alleged overexposures, such as identification of potential hazards, methods to reduce such hazards, provision of competent measurement services, and maintenance of the records of the measurements, in some detail. It discusses the calibration of measurement equipment as an important aspect of overall safety management.
