THE USE OF ITS SYSTEMS TO IMPROVE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE OPERATOR (CVO)- PORT INTERMODAL FREIGHT OPERATIONS

This report looks at the application of Intelligent Transportation Systems to Commercial Vehicle Operator (CVO) - port operations. Using the Barbours Cut Terminal in Houston as a case study, the report first identifies common operational problems that are often found in CVO - port operations. It lists and briefly describes those ITS systems and techniques that show potential for improving productivity and reducing congestion in and around ports. An implementation guideline for the use of ITS systems in ports is outlined. The report concludes with a brief outline of the guidelines using the Barbours Cut Terminal as an example where applicable.
