Parameter Influence of Second Suspension Dampers of High-Speed Trains on Ride Comfort

A dynamics model of high-speed train system is developed using multi-body dynamics theory to calculate and analyze the effect of the second suspension damper parameters on ride comfort. In this model, car body, bogies, and wheelsets are modelled as rigid bodies. Primary and second suspension systems are regarded as a spring-damping element. FASTSIM algorithm is used to simulate wheel-rail contact. The study results show that the reasonable values of second vertical damper and second anti-snaking damper make the vehicle obtain a better ride comfort index. The appropriate damping value increased in second lateral damper can effectively improve the ride comfort, but the damping value of the second lateral damper in the suspension system needs to match the damping value of second anti-snaking damper reasonably. In order to obtain better ride comforts, damping values of second vertical damper and lateral damper should not be too high.
