An alternative deck panel for small bridges

Traditionally, hardwood decking has been the material of choice for small bridges. However in recent years it has become more expensive, less available, and of poorer general quality. Alternative decking materials used have all shown limitations in performance due to short life caused by environmental degradation or structural inadequacies. Consequently, many asset owners are actively looking for alternatives which offer good structural performance and a long service life with little maintenance. Carbonloc Pty Ltd has developed a new type of reinforced polymer decking that easily meets these requirements and is increasingly being used as an alternative to hardwood decking. This paper will describe the structural details, environmental benefits, testing results and examples of recent applications.
