During 1961, Mr Alexander Matthew, South African Cooperative Citrus Exchange, Pretoria, visited the citrus-producing areas inland from Beira, Moi?½ambique, and at Mazoe, Southern Rhodesia. His findings were brought together in a comprehensive unpublished report in which, among other things, it was noted that citrus red scale, Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell), although present in the areas visited as a pest in nurseries and young trees, appeared to be satisfactorily and commercially controlled by natural enemies in many orchards of mature, bearing trees.
