An investigation of automatic audio classification and segmentation

To benefit from the increasing amount of information stored as audio data, automatic audio indexing and retrieval systems are required. Audio classification and segmentation are the prerequisites to automatic indexing and retrieval. We investigate automatic audio classification and segmentation based on silence ratio, the variation of zero-crossing rate and their combination. Our experimental results show promising classification and segmentation performance.
