THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS TO REDUCE CO2 EMISSION FOR CLEAN DEVELOPMENT MECHANISM IN KHON KAEN UNIVERSITY

This research paper proposes the public transportation projects for Clean DevelopmentMechanisms (CDM) to reduce Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emission in Khon Kaen University (KKU). Theproposed transportation projects are 2 scenarios (The substitution of fuel usage of Song Thaew and thereplacement of existing Song Thaew by a campus shuttle bus). The CO2 emission reduction isestimated by following the principle of CDM. This study applied JICA STRADA program, to analyzethe existing traffic volume and to estimate the future traffic volume along KKU road network in 2014.The emission factors are applied to calculate the emissions. The emissions of each scenario arecompared with those of Baseline scenario, a condition without proposed project, to evaluate theproposed projects. The evaluation results show that both proposed projects for transportation canreduce significantly the CO2 emission. Hence, the proposed projects would be possibly considered tobe implemented for CDM in Khon Kaen University.
