Identity Presentation: The Construction of Identity in Asynchronous Discussion

Die hier vorgestellte Studie beschaftigt sich mit E-Mails als Medium langdauernder Kommunikation zwischen Schuler/innen und Lehrer/innen. Hierzu wurden in einem Kurs verschickte E-Mails gesammelt und mittels konversationsanalytischer Verfahren und im Rahmen eines "Social Practice"-Modells ausgewertet. Wahrend Identitat in einem umfassenderen Sinne in Kontexten entwickelt werden kann, die korperliche Anwesenheit im Rahmen von Face-to-Face-Kommunikation erlauben, zeigte diese Studie, dass Identitat auch in Kontexten konstruiert wird, die sich nicht durch diese Merkmale auszeichnen: Identitatsbildung vollzog sich vielmehr mittels sozialer, kultureller und technologischer Medien und half, durch E-Mails unterstutzt, dass soziale Praktiken entwickelt wurden, die spezifisch fur diese Kommunikationsform sind. Zugleich ergeben sich aus der Studie Konsequenzen fur ein besseres Verstandnis der Beziehung zwischen Identitat, Zielen und Anforderungen und der kollaborativen Entstehung sozialer Praktiken in asynchroner, computervermittelter Kommunikation.
