Optical correlator based Traffic Signs Recognition

Paper presents experiments and results with traffic sign recognition system based on Cambridge Correlator. The real traffic scene is used and captured with color camera. The system consists of three main blocks, Preprocessing, Optical Correlator and Traffic Sign Identification. The ROI is defined and chosen in preprocessing block. Preprocessed ROI go to Optical Correlator a then is compared with reference images (traffic signs). After correlation, the position of correlations peaks present recognized Traffic Sign. Several experiments have been done with this system. Results and conclusion are discussed.
