A Bidirectional Three-Level Current-Fed DC/DC Converter Using Dual Phase Shift Modulation

A bidirectional three-level current-fed DC/DC converter is proposed for low voltage high current application. To reduce the peak current through high frequency (HF) transformer and switches at light load condition, a dual phase shift modulation is proposed and employed. Zero current switching of primary switches and zero voltage switching of secondary switches are achieved for a wide load range. The voltage across primary devices is naturally clamped at rather low reflected output voltage, enabling the use of low voltage rating devices. The total losses are reduced significantly and the converter performance is greatly improved. Simulation results and experimental results are presented to verify to the theoretical analysis.
