Traffic and Transport Data Management by Micro-Computer

Dealing with the multiple needs of an adequate traffic and urban transport information system is becoming a manageable task with the software and hardware presently available in micro-computing. The proposed system, designed and developed for a typical IBM PC/XT or AT environment, demonstrates the uses and the capabilities which result from a comprehensive design. Traffic data, such as traffic signs, accidents, traffic volumes, speeds and pavement quality are related to other urban data by means of a common geo-coded street network. Transit data consist of network definitions (modes, routes and level of service), demand characteristics (O-D trips, boarding and alighting flows, etc. . . ) and spatial referencing (zoning system, centroids' locations, aggregation dictionaries). The system management and information retrieval is done by the well-known dBASE III plus program.
