Evaluating Researchers through Betweenness Centrality Measures of Co-Author Networks from Academic Literature Database : Finding Gatekeeper Researchers in Organizational Research

In this paper, we evaluate researchers in physics and biology fields where organizational research is often conducted, using betweenness centrality of co-author networks which we have proposed as an evidence-based evaluation index of researchers. In addition, we compare citation-based indexes which is typical indexes of researchers and betweenness centrality of co-author networks which we propose. Then we discuss these indexes from the viewpoints of "visible competencies" and "hidden competencies" and from the viewpoints of "temporal knowledge accumulation" and "organizational knowledge aggregation." Finally, we show effectiveness and importance of the proposed index as an evaluation index of researchers, particularly researchers in organizational research, under the circumstances where collaboration of institutions and fusion of disciplines such as Open Innovation is becoming important.
