EFFECT OF STRAIN-HARDENING ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF AXIALLY CRUSHED CYLINDRICAL TUBES

ABSTRACT Experiments carried out on metal tubes of aluminium alloy, copper and brass to examine the effects of strain-hardening on the load and deformation characteristics under axial compression are described. It is seen that strain-hardening increases mean crushing loads by upto 100%. Removal of strain-hardening is seen to lead to changes in modes of deformation and sometimes in loss of stability.
