LNA design for WLAN applications

An important applications of C band microwave frequencies is the Wireless LAN (WLAN) operating at 5 GHz. Since the frequency of operation has increased from 2.45 GHz to 5 GHz the susceptance of noise also increases and hence the selectivity of the receiver initial stages should be very high to remove these noise components and send a clean information to the receiver destination. The initial stage of the receiver is the low noise amplifier which is nothing but microwave amplifier often designed using the highly advanced solid state devices like BJT's, FET's and newly developed heterojunction devices like HBT's and HEMT's. In this work we have taken an initiative to design the low noise amplifier using Advanced Design System (ADS) simulation software with high selectivity and sensitivity that minimizes the noise by considering the trade-off between the impedance matching, power gain, stability and selecting low noise biasing conditions.
