Finite element analysis on temperature field of long-span steel structure under fire conditions

Publisher Summary The chapter discusses the finite element analysis (FEA) on the temperature field of a long-span steel structure under fire conditions. FEA is an effective method to calculate the temperature field of long-span steel structures. The t-squared fire, the fire characterized by a parabolic curve, can be applied to establish the fire model, and the maximum heat release rate is to be determined by the use of building. It could simplify the model, and the results have a good degree of accuracy. For complicated space shape and combustion situations, no proper regulation is given by the codes currently in effect. Finite element models should be established to achieve temperature field in need. The FEA results are discussed and compared with the simplified equation recommended in Technical Code on Fire Safety of Steel Building Structures.
