Effect of 4-tert-Butylpyridine on the Quasi-Fermi Level of Dye-Sensitized TiO2 Films

We investigated the effect of 4-tert-butylpyridine (TBP) on the quasi-Fermi level (QFL) of dye-sensitized TiO2 films by using a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) with three electrodes. The QFL of the TiO2 films increased with increasing TBP concentration, which proves that the TBP-induced increase in open-circuit voltage of the DSC is due to a shift of the QFL to a higher potential. The shifted QFL by TBP at short circuit is demonstrated for the first time which is important information to research additives affecting JSC in DSCs.
