Territoriality in Pronghorn Bucks on the National Bison Range, Moiese, Montana

The behavior of seven different mature male pronghorns (Anti-locapra americana) was studied for 102.6 hours during the rut season of 1966 on the National Bison Range in Montana. the bucks were in non-overlapping territories of Viq to Vs square miles. a buck on his territory displayed aggressive behavior to males that looked toward him or exposed the sides of their bodies to him. the bucks defended their areas against yearling bucks in all 131 interactions, and against other adult bucks in 69 of 73 similar encounters.
