A Slotted pipe kicker for high current storage rings

Abstract The novel fast-pulsed injection magnets for the FEL storage ring DELTA at the University of Dortmund are integrated parts of the vacuum tube. They are made by slitting the pipe symmetrically with respect to the beam axis. This keeps the cross section constant and the losses due to wake fields are reduced significantly compared to more conventional designs. Other advantages are a rather homogeneous field distribution in the beam region and a low inductivity.
