A fuzzy model for environmental benign process planning selection

Environmental factors have become an important factor for a manufacturing process. It includes quantity of solid wastes generated, air pollution, water pollution, catalysts flow, health and safety of operators. Efforts were made in all possible stages of manufacturing, and one among them is environmental conscious process planning. It takes into account environmental issues with technical and operational factors. Environmental parameters that effect eco-friendly process planning were often difficult to measure, as there it involves a certain degree of vagueness, impreciseness and inaccuracies associated with the data. Hence the use of fuzzy set theory helped to deal with the uncertainties and complexities in the knowledge to be incorporated and thus capture and model the impreciseness in human reasoning in set-up planning. Fuzzy set theory aimed at providing a body of concepts and techniques for dealing with modes of reasoning. The main objectives of this research is towards integrating the environmentally benign process planning with fuzzy set theories as fuzzy environmental process planning can handle the vagueness and impreciseness associated with the data and can eliminate subjective decisions.
