Abstract The loss rates of Floy FD-67 anchor tags and FTF-69 fingerling tags were compared in a double-tag experiment on adult white suckers Catostomus commersoni in a small northwestern Ontario lake. Twenty-seven out of 100 white suckers tagged in September 1978 were recaptured over a period of 7 years ending in 1985. Losses of fingerling tags were in excess of 70% after less than 1 year whereas losses of anchor tags averaged about 10% at each recapture period up to the seventh year.
