A gene (pell) encoding pectin lyase (Pell) was iselated from a shQyu koji moJd, AspergiUits oi:yzae KBN616, and characterized. The structural gene comprised 1,196 bp with a single intron. The ORF enceded 381 amino acids with a signa) peptide o £ 20 amino acids. The deduced amino acid sequence showed hlgh similarity to those of Asperginus niger pecti" }yases and GlomereUa cingulata PnlA. The pell gene was successftt1}y everexpressed "nder the promoter of the A. oryzae ZEFI gene. The molecular mass of the recombinant pectin lyase substantially coincided with that calculated basect on
