Analysis of the Idle Angle of the Roller Overrunning Clutch

This paper analyzed the reason why a roller overrunning clutch idles while the driving part of the clutch is engaging,then a motion model for the idling is given,and a calculation formula of the idle angle is proposed.Our calculation results show that the idle angle of the common roller overrunning clutch is less than 2°,when the clutch transmits the nominal torque.Under the same torque,the idle angle is less when driving part is the race than the star wheel,and also the bigger the clutch size,the less the idle angle.
