The car logo positioning and recognition method includes the following steps: the sample pictures of various car logos are acquired, so that a car logo template library is obtained; the gabor features of the various sample pictures in the car logo template library are extracted; and the adaboost algorithm is adopted to generate a cascade classifier with the gabor features. The method also includes the following steps: the original image of a car is acquired; the original image is morphologically preprocessed, and all car logo candidate regions are positioned out on the morphologically preprocessed image; the cascade classifier is adopted to traverse each car logo candidate region, and if a car log can be detected out in the car logo candidate regions, then the car logo is taken as a recognition result.
