A New Interpolation Algorithm Based on the Frequency Transform

In this paper, we proposed a new interpolation algorithm which based on the Nonsubsampled Contourlet transform. The advantages of rational function interpolation and edge-directed image interpolation are used for the image interpolation. The initial image is transformed into frequency domain through the Nonsubsampled Contourlet transform. We divide the high frequency region into the smoothing area and non-smoothing area. For the latter, the edge-directed interpolation is used. The rational function interpolation is used for smoothing area. The objective image is obtained by Nonsubsampled Contourlet inverse transformation. Experimental results illustrate the proposed method preserves image texture detail and edge sharpness.
