Actions as Activities and Activities as Petri nets

This paper proposes ways to view the rich semantics of actions as activities. This is achieved by unfolding the invoked activities and the implicit joins and forks. The unfolding offers an explanation for the semantics of actions by activities and also allows a simple translation from an activities subset to a well-known Petri net class. One example of an activity diagram and the respective Petri net is included.
