Research of Fire and Smoke Development in Underground Garages

Using the heat releasing rate model of car fire experiments and multi-compartment fire modeling software CFAST 3.1.6, the development process of car fire and smoke in underground garages, with a area of 500, 1000 or 2000 m 2 and a height of 3 or 5m, was simulated and calculated respectively under the conditions of different discharge quantities of smoke. The research result shows that the actually required mechanical exhaustion (or exchange times of air) to meet the needs of evacuation and fire fight in determined time is related to the garage area, floor height and fire load, and that it is reasonable for the current criterion to define the maximal working temperature of smoke-venting fans as 280 ℃, but it is a little smaller to specify the smoke screen height as 0.5 m.
