Mission Profile Emulator for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine Based on Three-phase Power Electronic Converter

The mission profiles of motor drive systems are becoming more and more complicated in many emerging applications of power electronics such as wind power generation, locomotive and electric vehicles, etc. As a result, comprehensive and long-term reliability verifications/tests of power electronics systems and devices are becoming crucial needs. In order to achieve such kind of advanced tests with flexibly adjusted testing configurations such as torque profiles, kinetic inertia, electric machine parameters and control algorithms, etc., a mission profile emulator, which is solely based on power electronic converter, is proposed for simulating the static and dynamic behaviors of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines. The principle, design and implementation of the concept are illustrated with the simulation results and experimental validation.
