Optimal power flow with FACTS device using two step initialization based algorithm for security enhancement considering credible contingencies

This paper presents the use of multi-line flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) device which is interline power flow controller(IPFC) for power system security enhancement by reducing number of overloaded lines and voltage violation buses. The security constrained optimal power flow (SCOPF) problem with IPFC is solved using proposed algorithm known as intelligent search evolution algorithm (ISEA). In the proposed algorithm, a two step initialization process have been adopted, the mutation operation is not used and also it gives optimal solution with less number of generations which results in the reduction of the computation time. Numerical results are carried out on a standard IEEE 14-bus system to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed algorithm with IPFC.
