Smart E-Governance and Sustainable Development: Strategic Alignment Assessment Framework

Web 2.0 has provided impetus to infuse citizen centered Services in effective manner. It has been the focus of Indian government to provide "minimum government and maximum governance" through digital India initiatives. E-Gov 2.0 in India has been launched with a lot of promise in establishing citizen charters and citizen led governance systems in India to ensure that citizens in access layer of governance receive the benefits of good governance. Sustainable development goals (SDGs) the United Nation (UN) have indentified increasing role of information and communication technologies and provide importance on national readiness of its member countries. This article considers it important to ensure that national readiness is based on the effective use of Web 2.0 for deployment of smart governments while taking note of the demands of citizens. Such a holistic approach needs strategic alignment among all the constituents contributing to national readiness. In this article, a strategic alignment model is used to examine the readiness of the governments in India, strategies adopted to make use of digital India initiatives, use of Web 2.0 as deployment tool and contributions to SDGs. Two important websites are taken up to examine the readiness.
