Detection of frequencies using least square error function

We propose a new hypothesis testing method for detection of frequencies from a single measurement of data. The testing is performed on the least square error function. The global minimum value of the least square error function is shown to exhibit /spl chi//sup 2/ distribution which leads to an efficient threshold setup for the proposed method. The new method is a combined detection-estimation technique and provides improved performance over several existing techniques.
