Liquid phase epitaxy growth of langasite film for resonators and oscillators

Abstract We report the growth of crystalline langasite (LGS) films using the liquid phase epitaxy technique. Utilizing a eutectic PbO : Bi 2 O 3 flux system we have demonstrated that epitaxial LGS films can be grown on a spinel substrate. The films were characterized by optical and electron microscopes and X-ray diffraction. Detailed analysis revealed that the crystalline langasite films grow epitaxially along the c -direction (in hexagonal setting) which is parallel to the (1 1 1) orientation of the cubic spinel substrate.
