한국해군 이지스 구축함의 탄도미사일 방어능력 보강을 위한 정책적 제언 : (NCW 개념 下이지스 구축함의 탄도미사일 요격능력을 중심으로)

North Korea provokes and endangers the USA, Japan and South Korea with frequent missile launches as completing development of several types of ballistic missiles and dispatching the missiles. The north has shown its move toward increasing their force capability by having recent SLBM(Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile) tests and mounting on the Shin-po class submarine that newly dispatched into their front line. This study analyzed the BMD capability of ROKS Aegis Destroyer, Se-jong the Great(KDX-III Batch-1), with three perspectives of NCW elements in order to encounter the north’s BM threats. It has been observed and found that the KDX-III Batch-I is capable of BM Search and information sharing, but incapable of intercept that is considered to be a limitation of the ship. In order to enhance BMD capability for KDX-III Batch-2, many applicable solutions are derived and chosen, then proposed ultimate solution to improve its capability through M&S and FAS survey. This study proposes that the best solution is to install SM-3 missile system into the KDX-III Batch-2 that is developed and proved its capability through intercept tests on BM targets by the USN. Also, in consideration of geographical environment of Korea and various flight patterns of the north Korea’s BM, SM-6 introduction into the KDX-III Batch-2 must be considered as lower tier BMD in the southern region of the korean peninsula. Once the relevant policies determine to equip both of SM-3 and SM-6, the BMD capability will be much improved as it can defend the BMs in higher and lower tier, in addition, it can provide multi-tier BMD systems along with KAMD systems in the korean theater.
