Variable Structure Control for Vehicle Clutch Actuated by Brushless DC Motor

The realization of the system's quality performance requires high standards in the design of relative control system, the accurate model of the dynamic system that includes an electro actuator and the clutch mechanism assists in the enhancement of control system performance of the electronically controllable clutches. In this paper, a nonlinear controller was developed by means of variable structure control (sliding mode control) for the purpose of improving control response of the automated clutches. Computer simulations are made for the real clutch system and it is shown by the numerical results obtained from the present control method that the variable structure control method is characterized with robustness and efficiency in forcing the system motion to track the specified trajectories.
