A Multidimensional Scaling Study of Complexity in Three-Dimensional Objects

The purpose of this study is to utilize multidimensional scaling as a technique to reconcile objective and subjective criteria of stimulus complexity for three-dimensional objects. The research stems from our interest in how to best present technical illustrations. We suspect that the complexity ofobjects to be illustrated may interact with illustration format. However, to devise illustrations of varying complexity, we first need a better understanding of complexity in three-dimensional objects.
