The thermochemical principle of cooling based on steam conversion of methane

The problem of using the reaction of steam conversion of methane for thermal protection of a heated surface is discussed. The possibility of high catalytic activity of the wall by deposition of a micropore coating is analyzed by calculations. A thermohydraulic model for heating gas mixtures CH 4 -H 2 O in catalytic tubes is developed. The level of heat flow rates that can be obtained in tube reactors of different length and diameter as a function of the wall activity and the regime parameters is investigated by calculations. It is shown that, at low initial pressures, the compressibility of gas flow considerably limits the effectiveness of cooling.
