Reactive PowerDispatching forPowerSystemVoltage Security

An optimization-based methodis presentedfor determiningthe schedulingof reactiveequipment (capacitors for example)on an hourlybasisfor maximum steady-state power systemsecurityduring normaland post-contingency conditions.The method simultaneously dealswiththeeffectsof a numberof contingencies, and includesall bus voltagesas constraints. The intended applic-ation is to schedule existlngcapacitors duringperiodsof lightloadto preventabnormally highvoltagesfromoccurring during normalandpost-contingency condittons. Resultsfrom tests using a Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection (PJM)modelare presented.
